About me

By day i’m the CTO at my own tech startup, but at the weekends I make things out of wood.

I enjoy building things and love the creative outlet that woodworking gives me. I give away a lot of the things I make for free as gifts.

How it all started

I made my first clock as a wedding present back in 2015. Since then i’ve expanded into making a variety of items, such as coffee tables, shelves, and serving boards.

Wood Sourcing

I’m proud to source all of my wood locally. I have access to an area of woodland where there have been a number of windblown oak and chestnut trees over the past few years. I am also friendly with local tree surgeons who are kind enough to pass interesting specimens to me if they come across them.

Once I’m given a tree I’ll mill it using one of my chainsaw mills. Then it’s stacked and left to air dry for months, or even years before I process it into usable lumber.

Philosophy

I try very hard to minimise my amount of waste as It takes a lot of time and effort to source, process, and dry all of my own wood. A lot of my clocks are quirky because of this low waste approach.

Each item I make is numbered and I keep an inventory of everything I produce. I take a great deal of pride in my work, and often spend a lot of time sanding things.

Orders

Even though I enjoy it very much, I’ve decided to keep woodworking strictly as a hobby and as such I don’t take orders. The items for sale in my shop are just items that i’ve decided to make that are surplus stock - a man does not need ten clocks in his house!
